The hot topics of aviation, tourism and our regional airport were discussed by Virgin Australia Chief Executive Officer John Borghetti at a lunch event on 18 September at Aussie World.
The event, hosted by Member for Fisher Mal Brough MP in partnership with Sunshine Coast Destinations Limited, attracted over 170 attendees from the tourism industry with all profits being donated to the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge.
Mr Brough said that the event was a great opportunity to hear from a key figure in the aviation and tourism industry.
“This event was very important for the Sunshine Coast. John was able to answer questions about the tourism sector and more specifically about our regional airport which is invaluable.
“John believes that we need to work on establishing our identity and investing in infrastructure to attract more visitors to our region,” Mr Brough said.
When asked about earlier flights departing the Sunshine Coast for the business market, Mr Borghetti committed an earlier flight on a trial basis starting in February 2015.
Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd Chief Executive Officer Simon Ambrose said that it was exciting to hear first-hand from John Borghetti.
“These are exciting times for tourism on the Sunshine Coast and today we were able to learn about global trends around the future of aviation and tourism and what it will mean for our region.
“Today was another important step for our organisation and industry to understand the importance of innovation, planning and working collaboratively to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” Mr Ambrose said.
