Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said there would be a number of improvements to McCarthy Park’s infrastructure aimed at promoting children’s play and community socialising.
“Young families will really enjoy the extended playground with a special new play element – a GPod Spinner and a multi-purpose play area with a basketball unit,” Cr McKay said.
“There’ll also be a sandstone block retaining wall doubling as a seating wall and a pedestrian pavement to the existing shelter that will benefit people of all ages and abilities.
“A number of beautification and maintenance works are also being undertaken including the removal of weed species trees and pruning to improve lighting and safety and the planting of street trees to offset tree removal.”
Other elements included in the much awaited park upgrade include:
- Safety fencing and a new refuse bin
- Relocation of site boulders
- Improvements to site drainage
- Planting to the open drain to improve bank stabilisation and park amenity.
Council has invested $78,000 to the landscape improvement works at McCarthy Park, of which Cr McKay contributed $53,000 from her discretionary funds.
The works commenced in late January and are scheduled to be completed by 28 March (weather permitting).
