[Video]A new tourism attraction has hit the Coast.
Jerry and Paddy van Driel-Vis, who own and operate Mooloolaba Fish and Crab Charters out of Mooloolaba, have delivered the Coast’s first ‘jet boat’, which will also operate out of Mooloolaba.
And it’s fast – very fast.
“The vessel is capable of speeds well in excess of 40 knots, although during thrill rides speeds tend to be closer to 30 knots to ensure safety,” Jerry van Driel-Vis said.
“Thirty knots on water – especially when you are only a couple of feet from the surface – is extremely fast.”
Today Mayor Mark Jamieson helped celebrate the arrival of the new attraction – and to try it out.
“This is a new and welcome addition to tourism attractions on the Sunshine Coast, and Mooloolaba,” he said.
“It’s an attraction for those who like something more than a sedate cruise; it’s more for the thrill-seekers.
“It’s speed, wave-jumping, spins, all in safety – the boat can travel at up to 40 knots – but unlike a lot of similar marine experiences, this one is fully under cover in air-conditioning – and dry!”
The boat will be available for charter for functions and weddings, dolphin- and whale-watching, journeys to other parts of the Coast – even a taxi service.
“This is a fantastic new tourism offering for the Sunshine Coast – and a great experience,” Mayor Jamieson said.
