Suspicious device, Maroochydore – Update

Investigations into a suspicious device found in Ocean Street at Maroochydore yesterday have concluded with the item identified as a purchased recreational toy.
Ocean Street was closed for a number of hours to ensure public safety after police were alerted to the suspicious device on top of a bin around 9am.
The Explosive Ordinance Response Team (EORT) attended and subsequently safely destroyed the device.
Police have made contact with relevant authorities to ensure such a device meets safety standards.

A suspicious device found in Ocean Street, Maroochydore earlier this morning has been safely destroyed by police from the Explosive Ordinance Response Team (EORT).
 
Around 9am a member of the public alerted police to a suspicious device found on a rubbish bin in Ocean Street.
 
Ocean Street has now been reopened after the emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was revoked.
 
Scenes of crime officers are presently conducting investigations at the scene in relation to the device.

Specialist police are on route to assess the situation following reports of a suspicious device found in Ocean Street, Maroochydore this morning.
Around 9am a member of the public alerted police to a suspicious device found on a rubbish bin in Ocean Street.
An emergency situation has been declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act with police closing Ocean Street.
Police have cordoned off the intersection of Beach Road, Duporth Avenue and the entrance road to the Big Top Shopping for 300 meters.
Businesses in the area have also been evacuated as a precaution.
The area will remain closed until police are able to identify the device.
