Sunshine Coast University Hospital

Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie MP was joined by Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson and leading Queensland Health officials to update residents on the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital at a public meeting in Kawana yesterday (Wednesday) evening.
Executives from all stakeholder groups including Ramsay Health, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast TAFE, Exemplar Health and John Holland Constructions presented an update and answered questions from the floor.
Among those attending the public forum were the newly appointed North Coast Region Chief Executive Officer for Queensland Health, Kevin Hegarty and the Sunshine Coast Regional Health Board Chairman, Professor Paul Thomas.
Mr Bleijie said that there had been an overwhelming response to the Community Health Forum with over 200 residents in attendance.
“This project will not only re-vitalise front line health and medical services on the Sunshine Coast, it will be the major economic driver for the next decade with the creation of thousands of new jobs in construction and retail.”
Mayor Mark Jamieson wants to make sure that local business and trades people get their fare share of work from this project.
“Council has acted very quickly to the announcement of the successful tender for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and is staging a number of construction industry information forums designed to help local industry be better positioned to capitalise on tender opportunities. We’re working with the Exemplar group to make sure local businesses are given every opportunity.”
