Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) has reached a major milestone this month – welcoming its 600th member.
It’s a significant achievement for the not-for-profit tourism marketing organisation, which launched its membership program in December 2011.
SCDL Chairman, Barrie Adams said the increase in membership is a testament to SCDL’s commitment to tourism in the region.
“We’ve seen substantial growth since the program began, with SCDL attracting hundreds of new members including accommodation houses, tour operators, restaurants and cafes, entertainment venues, transport providers and professional support services,” Mr Adams said.
Not only is the organisation expanding its membership, it also recently welcomed a brand new Gold Member – with the National Australia Bank (NAB) at Maroochydore becoming the first major bank to join SCDL.
NAB Business Banking Executive for the Sunshine Coast, Michael Asmussen, said the bank is delighted to join the organisation.
“Tourism is the lifeblood of the Sunshine Coast and when the tourism industry is thriving the rest of our economy benefits. We look forward to working closely with the SCDL team and their members to make the Sunshine Coast a strong and competitive tourist destination, both in the short term and for decades to come,” Mr Asmussen said.
He said NAB is also keen to explore tourism opportunities in Asian markets.
“Our initial focus will be to work with SCDL to educate their members and our clients of the significant potential offered by the expanding Chinese tourist market, and all that this can offer the Sunshine Coast. In short, we want to play our part in ensuring that the Sunshine Coast is ‘China Ready’!” he said.
SCDL membership allows businesses like NAB to participate in dynamic tourism campaigns, subsidised activities and gain access to the latest research and development reports. Members are also entitled to have their brochures displayed in SCDL’s nine Visitor Information Centres across the region.
The membership program is designed to expand visitation to the Sunshine Coast and benefit the local economy and tourism businesses. If you’d like more information about the program, contact SCDL on 07 5458 8800 or visit: www.scdl.com.au/membership.
