Student leaders from Caloundra Christian College retreated into the country for a weekend of mentoring and planning, ready for their roles in leadership this year. Accompanied by their Principal (Mr Mark Hodges), College Chaplain (Miss Leah Brown) and Secondary Teacher (Mrs Rebecca Spicer), the Year 12 leaders headed off to Gunalda (Mt Kanigan). The retreat concentrated on strengths-based leadership, personal development, mentoring and vision-casting for 2013.
“One highlight of the retreat was the final session, where students were encouraged to spend an hour by themselves, reflecting on their personal and group goals for the year. Each student responded differently with some journaling, others building a pile of memorial stones, still others burning a piece of paper representing something they want to overcome during the year.” Said Mr Hodges. “I count the weekend with the students as one of the many priviledges I experience across the school year, and I look forward to the retreat each year.”
Students at Caloundra Christian College are encouraged to mentor those younger students and be the best role model they can be to those who look up to them. Mr Hodges prioritises the leadership retreat at the start of each year for incoming Senior leaders, with the aim of spending time imparting his leadership insight and knowledge to the next generation of leaders.
