A new picnic and BBQ shelter area, seating, tables and landscaping works are the first of many improvements on the cards for Peregian Beach Park.
Division 11 Councillor Russell Green said these improvements are outcomes of Sunshine Coast Council’s Peregian Beach Park landscape concept plan.
“The Peregian Beach Park project has been a collaboration of community, staff and myself, as local councillor, for many years and we are now arriving at an exciting place where we are delivering the first stage on the ground,” Cr Green said.
“Site works for this first stage of park improvements at Peregian Beach Park are scheduled to commence next week and are anticipated to be complete by the end of October (weather dependent).
“The works will include the construction of a new picnic and BBQ shelter area, with associated park furniture, landscaping and electrical works.”
Contractors will be fencing off the immediate area for the duration of the project in order to meet Workplace Health and Safety requirements. Council will work to keep disturbances to a minimum.
Cr Green said council undertook community consultation during 2012 to understand the views and preferences of the local community, key stakeholders and park users about the future park improvements.
“We used the information identified during the community consultation to define the content of the landscape concept plan,” he said.
“The landscape concept plan aims to improve the Peregian Beach Park’s amenity and enhance the recreational experience and activities within the park.
“The plan comprises both short term and long term upgrades, and provides a basis for future funding, detailed design, construction and the refurbishment of key components within the park.
“Council is currently working on the detailed design of stage two, which is scheduled for construction in the latter half of 2013.”
The landscape concept plan is available to view online at council’s website.
