Ensuring tourists, visitors and local have access to car parking in Maple Street, Maleny is crucial for local business. Sunshine Coast Council is set to undertake works that will provide ongoing parking availability in the future.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the new arrangements would provide more parking spaces for tourists as well as business staff and locals.
“Maple Street is the primary parking area for visitors, tourists and locals in Maleny so to keep this area free the nearby council and IGA car parks will become long term parking areas for staff,” she said.
“A total of 24 new all-day parking bays will also be marked along nearby Willow Lane.
“Willow Lane will be changed to one-way to cater for the addition of these new parking bays, with traffic directed from Teak Street to Fig Street (east to west).
“I have worked closely with council officers and members from the local Chamber of Commerce and business owners to address the problem of parking availability in Maleny and these changes have received overwhelming support from the community.”
Work on the new parking and traffic arrangements will commence in early December and is expected to be completed within two to three days (weather permitting). Traffic management measures will be in place while works are in progress to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
