PALMER Coolum Resort’s championship golf course has been rated as number one on the Sunshine Coast in the latest top 100 rankings from the renowned Australian Golf Digest magazine.
The rankings are collated by Australian Golf Digest’s team of golf experts and industry gurus who visit golf courses around the nation and provide ratings on key criteria including shot values, design variety, memorability and conditioning.
Australia boasts over 1500 golf courses and according to this year’s rankings Palmer Coolum Resort finished as sixth best in Queensland, number one on the Sunshine Coast and 47th overall.
Director of Golf Paul Crangle said the news came as a massive boost for everyone involved in presenting the golf course on a daily basis.
“With so many magnificent golf courses on the Sunshine Coast and in Queensland as a whole, to finish as the highest ranked course on the coast is a great result for us and a tribute to our dedicated staff,” Mr Crangle said.
“Our goal is to continue to improve the course and ensure we maintain our status.”
Simon Stodart, General Manager at Palmer Coolum Resort, echoed Paul Crangle’s sentiments.
“Golf is one of the key reasons why people visit the Sunshine Coast and certainly one of the most popular leisure activities among locals, so for us to be ranked as the coast’s top course by a highly reputable golf magazine is a terrific outcome,” Mr Stodart said.
Palmer Coolum Resort’s 18-hole, par 72 championship course was designed by renowned course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. Many of the world’s top golfers have played the course, including the likes of Adam Scott and Greg Norman. Just recently, young greenkeeper Kurt Davies was announced as runner-up in the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Queensland Turf Apprentice of the Year award.
