Deputy Mayor Chris Thompson said the Awards provide an opportunity to nominate people from our own backyard who have made a contribution to the region and publicly recognise and honour those achievements.
“Nominations open today for individuals and organisations in our community who work to make the Sunshine Coast a better place in which to live,” Cr Thompson said.
“These are the people that we call local heroes – they make a difference to the fabric that make up our region so it is important that we celebrate their contribution.”
Awards will be presented in the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Sport and Recreation.
The fifth annual Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards ceremony, at which our winners will be announced, will take place on 25 January 2013. The event will include performances by local musicians and the presentation of awards by the Mayor.
Nominations close 28 December 2012. Entry forms are available on council’s website for download or completion on line, or may be picked up from customer service centres, libraries, visitor information centres, Sunshine Coast University and TAFE.
