While their on-field battles will be hard fought, sporting participants will soon have an easier time parking at the Elizabeth Daniels Sports Fields in Buderim.
Sunshine Coast Council is currently constructing a new car park adjacent to the bowls club and cricket fields on Syd Lingard Drive. The existing car park at the bowls club is also undergoing resealing works.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the works would enable the sporting precinct to function more efficiently.
“There will be 72 new spaces available via this new car park and the resealing of existing parking areas will make for much smoother travel in and out of the facility,” he said.
“With the new cricket field now in play it’ll be busier than ever this summer at the Elizabeth Daniels Sports Fields and these additional parking spaces are very much needed.
“Council worked closely with the bowls club to ensure its existing car park was resealed as this was a high priority for the club.”
The works are expected to be complete by the end of January 2013 (weather permitting). Traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
Cr Dickson said the car park at the nearby indoor sports centre would also undergo a reseal.
“This facility is an extremely popular one that caters for events all year round, particularly during the basketball season, and the car park needs these resealing works to ensure it is as safe and functional as possible,” he said.
“This resealing project will get under way shortly after the car parking works are complete at the nearby bowls and cricket facilities.”
