McArdle warns to be wary of door-to-door salespeople

Member for Caloundra Mark McArdle

Member for Caloundra and State Energy Minister Mark McArdle has warned local residents to be wary of door-to-door salespeople claiming to be from the State Government and asking residents to switch energy providers.
It comes after Mr McArdle’s office received complaints from elderly people in Dicky Beach and Battery Hill who had been approached.
It’s alleged salespeople are stating they’re from the State Government and ask to see their electricity bill, along with Medicare and Pensioner cards.
“The State Government does not engage in this type of activity, and anyone claiming to be representing the State Government in these instances is engaging in a serious breach of misrepresentation,” Mr McArdle said.
“The State Government will not door-knock local residents claiming they can offer a better price on their energy contracts if they immediately sign a new contract.
“Anyone who has signed a new contract under these circumstances is urged to contact my office.”
It’s understood marketing groups on behalf of some energy companies are targeting the Caloundra area.
Mr McArdle has immediately referred the matter for investigation.
