A popular access point for Maroochydore Beach has undergone a $230,000 makeover, making it easier for emergency services and beachgoers to reach the sand.

Division 8 Councillor Jason OPray said the upgrade made a significant difference to Beach Access 150.

“I’m thrilled to see the upgrade ready for our summer tourism season – the improved landscaping and facilities are fantastic, but most importantly it’s now easy for emergency services to drive right down onto the sand,” Cr OPray said.

“I’ve been counting down to the completion of this project – it’s a fantastic improvement and makes a great impression for residents and visitors arriving at our beautiful Maroochydore Beach.

Councillor OPray said the upgrade would also improve beach access and amenity for major events.

“Maroochydore Beach will be in the spotlight when the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships come to town in 2016 and it’s important we have great facilities in place for those visitors.”

Lifeguard Supervisor Rhys Drury said it was ideal to have a concrete ramp so close to the shed which stores important rescue gear.

“It’s now so much easier and quicker for lifeguards to get our gear into the water,” Mr Drury said.

“The concrete ramp also means we’ll have easy access to the beach when there is erosion – it won’t present the issue it has in the past.”

The upgrade includes a paved arrival plaza with an additional shower, bike racks and seating.

Beach Access 150 is located on the corner of Alexandra Pde and Melrose Pde, between Pierce Park and Maroochy Beach Caravan Park.
