THE Mount Coolum Room at Palmer Coolum Resort played host to an outstanding event on Tuesday (11 March) as the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network (SCBWN) held their annual International Women’s Day breakfast.
This year over 220 local businesswomen congregated at the resort to hear an inspirational keynote speech from arguably the world’s most successful female surfer, Layne Beachley.
Beachley landed six consecutive world titles from 1998 to 2003, then a seventh title three years later. A lengthy list of other honours were topped in 2013 when she was awarded the status of the third greatest Australian female athlete of all time behind legends Dawn Fraser and Betty Cuthbert.
Her achievements and prominence in the sporting world made Beachley the ideal speaker for the high profile event that attracts businesswomen from all over the region.
The Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network aim to connect and inspire dynamic women and play an active role in the local community, supporting and contributing to the professional and personal development of women throughout the Sunshine Coast.
Palmer Coolum Resort General Manager, Simon Stodart, said the resort was delighted to host the event once again.
“The Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network does a great job of empowering local women on a number of levels and we were delighted to host such a successful event,” Mr Stodart said.
“As clients they were delighted with how we hosted their event and this is yet more evidence of Palmer Coolum Resort being very much open for business and interacting with the local community.
“It was a lovely morning and I have to say Layne Beachley was riveting to listen to. It was great to have someone like her at the resort,” he said.
