Still riding the high from a record breaking performance at Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championship in Hawaii, and competing at the Coolangatta Gold, Jordan Mercer is to set to celebrate another major landmark – her 18th birthday.
It’s hard to believe that an athlete as accomplished and talented as Jordan is still so young, only very recently finishing high school. But unlike other school-leavers, Jordan doesn’t have the luxury of kicking off her shoes and free-wheeling it down to the Gold Coast for a week or two of partying.
Instead, she’s training, every day, twice a day. With the IronWoman series set to launch next Wednesday, 7 December, all of her focus needs to be on competing. Jordan has been particularly focused on her swimming since competing in the Coolangatta Gold, where she placed 11th.
For Jordan, there is no big 18th birthday party booked, no clubs planned, just a quiet BBQ on the beach surrounded by friends and family, along with one very, very big present.
In order to assist with Jordan’s dreams of being the best IronWoman in Australia, Madill Holden, avid supporters of Surf Life Saving, have offered Jordan a Holden Captiva to help her get to and from training and competitions.
“Jordan is a fabulous role model for all young people on the Sunshine Coast – very down to earth and a lovely young woman. Her level of dedication to her sport is something everyone should aspire to,” said Sales Manager, John Scott Madill.
“We feel she is a great ambassador for our business, and wanted to help her to achieve her dreams in any way we could.”
Jordan will be competing in round 1 of the IronWoman Series on Sunday 18th December in Surfers Paradise. If you would like to watch Jordan compete, the race will air on Channel 10 between 1-4pm local time.
