Grigor Bridge replacement commencing

Grigor Bridge
The existing Grigor Bridge

Construction of the replacement Grigor Bridge on Maleny-Kenilworth Road at Conondale is expected to start this week.
Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said the new bridge would provide an improved connection for Conondale, Maleny and Kenilworth communities.
“The existing timber structure will be replaced with a higher, two-lane concrete bridge that will improve flood immunity and provide a more reliable route for the users of this road,” Mr Powell said.
“When the old timber bridge was damaged by floods in 2010 and 2011, access for local communities and motorists was cut for days at a time.

“At almost three metres higher than the current bridge, the replacement has been designed to increase safety and durability and will enable the community and vital local industry to keep using the route during rain events.”
Mr Powell said careful consideration was being given to the environmental impacts to the Mary River during construction.
“The Mary River is home to several iconic species and construction activity in the water is occurring outside the breeding periods of these species,” he said.
“There will also be some required tree removal and revegetation as the alignment of the new bridge will be slightly different to the existing bridge.”
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and follow directions of traffic controllers and road works signage.
The project to replace Grigor Bridge is being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements, a joint federal and state initiative.
