The count down is on for local families and visitors to see in the new year at the Sunshine Coast’s biggest end-of-year celebrations – New Year’s Eve Mooloolaba!
New Year’s Eve at Mooloolaba celebrations start at 4pm on The Esplanade, Mooloolaba.
Critically acclaimed music sensations, The Whitlams, and popular live act, Amy Meredith, will take centre stage to the delight of more than 40,000 people expected to attend the celebrations on Saturday 31 December.
The whole program for the evening boasts an exciting line up of live music including local artists Stryder and The Jungle Giants. They will join five other acts performing on the Beach Stage which features young local talent from the AMPED program, providing them with a platform to entertain a large audience and gain exposure.
There will also be roving street entertainment, children’s activities, carnival rides and buskers for the whole family to enjoy.
Delicious food will be available from local vendors, restaurants and cafes on the Esplanade.
To ring in the New Year, two spectacular fireworks displays will take place at 8.30pm and midnight.
For patron safety, a number of road closures will take place around the vicinity of the event site. Road closure times will be minimised to limit disruptions to motorists, however residents and visitors should expect altered conditions.
The celebrations at Mooloolaba are only one of a number of New Year’s celebrations planned across the Sunshine Coast. Kings Beach and the Noosa Marina at Tewantin, will also host council supported events to mark the beginning of the New Year.
Caloundra Community New Years Eve Celebrations kicks starts the free, fun family entertainment from 3pm. Located at Kings Beach amphitheatre and Lions Park, the event features family favourite Shrek stage show, aerobatic stunt plane show, sky divers, rides, outdoor cinema (Yogi Bear) and plenty of live entertainment. Fireworks at 9.15pm will conclude the event. For details visit www.cesc.com.au.
Noosa Marina will showcase two fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight. The free entertainment from 7.30pm to 12.30am will feature the Matt Harris Trio. For details visit www.noosamarina.com.au.
Entry to the Mooloolaba New Year’s Eve drug, alcohol and glass-free event is free. Intoxicated persons will not be permitted entry.
The event is supported by a number volunteers, local community food stall and street performers.
Pet owners in the vicinity of the carols event are advised that the noise of fireworks and amplified music can cause pets to become agitated. Council reminds owners to ensure pets are safe and secure for the duration of the event.
