The countdown is on for the 157 finalists vying for a Sunshine Coast Business Award. In only four more days they will learn if they have been selected as one of the business and individual award winners at this Saturday’s (10 November) Gala Awards presentation.
The University of the Sunshine Coast Innovation Centre will act as the venue for the ‘futuristic fantasy’ themed evening where over 600 guests will enjoy a pre-awards cocktail party, gourmet food, live entertainment and of course, the awards ceremony.
WIN TV News anchorman, Paul Taylor and Zinc 96.1 announcer, Al Doblo will host the evening.
As organisers of the awards, the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce President, Ross Hepworth said that the past six weeks had seen the thirty one independent judges travelling the length and breadth of the coast interviewing finalists, conducting incognito ‘mystery shops’ and checking references.
“Although this is the 18th Year for the Awards the judges are always astounded by the commitment, quality and professionalism of businesses operating from our region.
“Of course it’s more than just giving them a trophy. These awards are about honouring the role these businesses people play in relation to sustaining and growing our economy and enhancing the communities in which we live.
“The unwavering support of our sponsors and judges allows us to continue to shine the spotlight on these worthy winners,” Ross said.
Sunshine Coast Council is the major platinum sponsor of the awards.
Mayor and Economic Development portfolio holder, Mark Jamieson said 2012 marked a big confidence boost in the local economy.
“We are moving to develop a more sustainable economy for the future here and local businesses have responded and risen to the challenge,” he said.
“It does not surprise me in the least that there is a large contingent of Sunshine Coast businesses vying for these awards; everywhere I have been this year I have heard encouraging and positive stories about their successes and plans for the future.
“It’s a competitive field for these awards, which speaks volumes about the great future ahead for the Coast.
“I wish each one of the finalists the best of luck and I look forward to the awards event this Saturday,” Cr Jamieson said.
