Member for Fisher Peter Slipper has announced more than $870,000 to assist organisations in Fisher that provide emergency financial support services to vulnerable people.
The Financial Management Programme aims to assist those struggling financially by providing emergency relief where required and financial counselling, as well as initiatives such as no-interest loans and matched savings schemes.
“Financial issues can be extremely overwhelming for those who struggle with uncontrolled debt and who are confused by financial jargon, and these funds are provided to help the organisations that can help them get their heads back above water,” Mr Slipper said.
The $870,271 in funds in Fisher will go to:
· Caloundra Community Centre (Currimundi) – $214,880
· Integrated Family and Youth Service – Maroochydore (Warana) – $491,670
· Nungeena Aboriginal Corporation for Women’s Business (Glasshouse Mountains) – $31,181
· The Salvation Army, Caloundra Family Store (Caloundra) – $132,540
“These funds help provide for a wide array of benefits, from emergency food or petrol vouchers, or household goods, through to part-payment of essential bills and, perhaps most importantly, basic budgeting advice and advocacy,” Mr Slipper said.
The funding comes from the Financial Management Programme for the period from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014.
