HAND-PICKED MUSIC: DIESEL’s upcoming Solo & Select Series II tour puts the audience in charge of the set list.

Following his extensive Hits & Blues Tour, Diesel is stripping back into solo mode and heading to Queensland for the Solo & Select Series II tour in May, 2013.Uniquely, it’s a show where the audience plays the main part in forming the set list for the night – they decide on the song choices forming a ‘tailored set’.
How it works…
From a list received on entry, the audience makes their song selection.  The set list for the evening is then formulated based on these choices.
Song choices will span from the first album “Johnny Diesel & The Injectors” (1989) through to “Under The Influence” (2011), along with new titles from his forthcoming album due for release 2013, and picks from some of Diesel’s favourite artists – Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix & Otis Redding to name just a few…
The idea of letting the audience ‘hand pick’ the songs makes for a spontaneous night of select music and Sunshine Coast fans will get their chance to participate at either Maleny Community Centre on Friday May 10, or Villa Noosa Hotel on Saturday May 11, 2013.
The Sunshine Coast shows are stops eight and nine of the Queensland leg of Diesel’s Solo & Select Series II tour, which sees the diverse artist travelling from Port Douglas to Brisbane for 10 shows.
Diesel last toured Queensland on his extensive Into The Light tour in May 2012, returning for a select few shows in August on his Hits & Blues tour.
This ‘journeyman of music’ is currently wowing audiences across regional NSW and Victoria on his Velvet Curtain Tour, and with a career spanning 25 years (35 singles,13 albums, 6 ARIA awards) and record sales edging 1 million, DIESEL’s unique style and sound continues to draw sell-out crowds across the nation.
Diesel (born in America as Mark Lizotte) shot to fame following the release in 1988 of Johnny Diesel and the Injectors’ first single, Don’t Need Love – from the band’s self-titled debut album.
He decided to go solo in early 1991 and has since worked with brother-in-law Jimmy Barnes on several projects, as well as continuing to release studio albums under the Diesel moniker.
In 1996, Diesel moved his family to New York and released the USA recorded album ‘Soul Lost Companion’ under his birth name, Mark Lizotte in 1998.
He retuned to Australia in 2002 and, as well as pumping out project after project, has constantly toured the country playing anything from intimate pub gigs to headlining mammoth outdoor concerts.
With blues music in his “DNA”, an influence largely from his Father’s record collection, DIESEL has blended all styles to come up with a truly unique sound, punctuated with his distinct guitar playing and vocals  – and his laid-back style is ‘tailor-made’ for audience participation in the upcoming ‘Solo & Select Series II’ tour.
