Development approval for Quanda Rd Industrial Estate

Sunshine Coast Council has approved a development application in Coolum that will create more jobs for locals on the Coast.
Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson said the new facility will employ up to 150 staff – and further employment opportunities would be available during the construction stage.
“The 150 staff will be employed in the operation in the long-term in a number of areas including welding/ boiler-making, fabrication, fitting, engineering, mechanical, IT, drafting, logistics, sales, forklift operation, spray painting, cleaning and administration,” Councillor Robinson said.
“This is big news for the region not only in employment terms but also because it validates that the Coast is in a prime position to benefit from the booming mining industry.
“The development approval is for an expansion of the existing Weir Minerals operation and that effectively means more pumps will be built on the Sunshine Coast.
“The expansion will allow for the fabrication and fitting of components to construct diesel powered pumps used by the mining industry.
“The new building will be located at the end of the Dacmar Rd industrial cul-de-sac within the existing Quanda Rd industrial estate and is an extension to the existing operation.
“It will have two fabrication and assembly areas including a testing facility, and an office/amenities area. Approximately 9% of the site will be landscaped, primarily along the road frontage.
“There is also a plan in place for a waste management system that will include recycling of metal, cardboard, wooden pallets, plastic and printer cartridges.
“This development is a great opportunity that will significantly contribute to building a sustainable Sunshine Coast economy when it gets underway.”
