Sunshine Coast commuters are being urged to revise their travel routes in and around Coolum after a section of David Low Way collapsed on Sunday night.
Local Disaster Coordinator Andrew Ryan said the road was closed to north and south bound traffic between Tritonia Drive and the Coolum Aquatic Centre.
“The Department of Main Roads and council engineers are currently examining the damaged section of David Low Way which is about 200m north of the Coolum Sports Complex,” he said.
“The extent of the damage and how long it will take to repair will not be known for at least another 48 hours.”
“School traffic is being allowed in from the southern end and access to the aquatic centre, the RSL and the Coolum Beach Baptist Church is also possible from the southern end.”
“The cycleway to the west of David Low Way is open so this is great option that parents in particular may want to consider as far as getting their children to and from school.
“At this stage there is no possibility of vehicles travelling from Coolum to Noosa on the David Low Way.”
Mr Ryan said traffic control measures were in place on David Low Way and traffic was being diverted to Coolum-Yandina Road.
“I would appeal to commuters who are being diverted to please be patient as there is a large amount of traffic converging around the Coolum Yandina Road due to the closure of David Low Way,” he said.
