Course on course for 2015 opening

20th Jun, 2014 by Charles Hodgson View News

mayorgolfclub1Mayor Mark Jamieson today headed a group to inspect progress on the new Bli Bli Golf Course site.
Accompanied by Deputy Mayor Chris Thompson, CEO John Knaggs and senior council staff, he met with club president Geoff Davies to discuss the ongoing works at the new course.
“The Bli Bli Golf Course is being built to replace Horton Park Golf Course, which council resumed by agreement in 2012,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“Progress is smooth at the new golf course site, and its completion will mark the beginning of one of the most exciting chapters in the Sunshine Coast’s history – the creation of the new Maroochydore city centre – on the Horton Park site.
“Council is now preparing to start perimeter work to the Horton Park Golf Course site, with most initial visible action to be on Aerodrome Road south-side between Maud Street and First Avenue.
“The city centre will be without doubt one of the most exciting developments for this region – and nationally.”
The new golf course, which was designed by legendary golfer Graham Marsh, will open with 18 holes and a driving range. The new site is bordered by David Low Way and Finland Road in Bli Bli.
Graham Marsh Golf Design’s work has included courses such as The Vines Resort in Perth, the Gold Coast’s Palm Meadows Resort, Old Silo in Kentucky, and Terry Hills Golf & Country Club in Sydney.
Mr Davies said there was extra land for future expansion at the new site for extra holes.
