Council to make a scene at national event industry awards

Sunshine Coast Council’s scene event management educational and networking program has been named a finalist in the Best Education or Training Program category of the 2012 Australian Events Industry Awards.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said scene has been recognised for providing education and training excellence for the Australian events industry.
“It is well known council is a keen supporter of the events industry and recognises the important role this industry plays in broadening our economy and adding to the cultural richness of our community,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“To be acknowledged on a national level for the scene program is an honour and will no doubt shine the spotlight on the events industry as a whole on the Coast.
“This may assist to increase job opportunities within the industry and strengthen the diversity of events in the region.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Business Events Sunshine Coast, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast TAFE and the Mantra Group who have all had strong input and involvement in the scene program.”
scene provides the events industry with an opportunity to network and make contacts with suppliers, industry representatives and hear from experienced guest speakers.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said scene had the credentials to take one of the top prizes at the awards ceremony on 13 September.
“When you take a moment to look at the list of finalists for the 2012 Australian Events Industry Awards, we are certainly in good company with well known brands such as Camp Quality and RACV,” Cr McKay said.
“We are one of only four councils in Australia to be acknowledged at these major events industry awards, and in fact the only council representing Queensland.”
Scene was shortlisted in this peak industry award because it could demonstrate how it contributed to the  professional development of this industry sector and demonstrates the important role the program plays in the marketplace to educate the events industry.
