Council prepares for storm season with exercise

Operation Spring Departure (View News)

The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group will conduct its annual pre-storm season disaster management exercise today (13 November 2012).
Called Operation Rainbow Storm, this is a desk top exercise that will test the processes and preparations of Sunshine Coast Council, emergency services (inducing Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire Service and Emergency Management Queensland) and a range of supporting agencies that are integral to the preparation, response and recovery stages of a disaster hitting the Sunshine Coast.
This one-day, desk top exercise is for a tropical cyclone hitting the coast at Rainbow Beach. It will include more than 160 people operating in two separate shifts, simulating an event which would, in real time, require Local Disaster Management Group support for days if not weeks.
