Howard Gelfand (Gone Bonkers), Gaye Williams (The Shop) , Noel Mooney (President Coolum Business and Tourism Association – front), Mal Wright (GM Coolum Beach SLSC), SCDL Tourist info Centre Volunteer, Graham are ready to launch Coolum’s Festival of Golf

Coolum’s business people have banded together to present ‘Coolum’s Festival of Golf’ – a full week of fun activities and events to help celebrate the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola, being held at the Palmer Coolum Resort from December 13-16.
Running from 9-16 December, Coolum’s Festival of Golf will launch in spectacular fashion this week as the town transforms into a gigantic golf course, with 19 ‘flagged’ golf holes being hoisted as part of the unique ‘Walkabout Map’.
Along with a full program of activities, the Walkabout Map invites visitors to ‘discover’ each of the numbered golf holes and experience all that Coolum has to offer.
The Flags will be on display outside 19 of the town’s prominent businesses, with Coolum Beach Surf Club serving as the ultimate 19th hole clubhouse experience.
The Walkabout Map will be distributed to local Tourist Information Centres and available from all of the flagged businesses throughout the Festival.
Beginning with a ‘Sand Bunker’ competition right on the beachfront on Sunday 9 December (11am-1pm), Coolum will come alive with a range of golfing themed activities appealing to children, families, visitors and business people alike.
The ‘Sand Bunker’ Competition was a hit with visitors last year; and with plenty of prizes to be won, the rumour of a celebrity guest appearance and all proceeds again going to Coolum’s Summer Surf Girl entrant Kate Norman, the event is sure to attract plenty of beachside attention this time round.
From Monday 10 December, Tickle Park will become ‘golf central’ as families are invited to play a round of Putt Putt Golf or get their creative juices flowing at one of the Sunshine Coast Kids Club craft workshops.
The Putt Putt Golf Course will be operating daily in Tickle Park from Monday 10 Dec to Thurs 13, then moving to Coolum Retail Precinct for Friday 14 and Saturday 15 Dec.
Kids Craft Workshops are scheduled in Tickle Park on Monday 10 Dec, Wednesday 12 Dec and Thursday 13 Dec (times vary- check program). Both activities are by Gold Coin Donation.
Buskers and live entertainment add to the vibrant and festive atmosphere throughout the week, with various performances scheduled at the Coolum Retail Precinct, Birtwill Street and Element on Coolum shopping complexes from Thursday 13 December to Sunday 16 December.
On Wednesday 12 December, the public is invited to rub shoulders with some of the PGA professionals  at an exciting Breakfast With The Stars, to be held at Coolum Beach Bowls Club from 7:30-9:00am.
At just $27.50pp, seats are strictly limited, so make sure you don’t miss out and book your spot online at now!
The action well and truly heats up on Friday 14 December with a unique 3D Projection Art Display on the beach, from 6:30 – 9:30pm.
Funded by council as part of their cultural arts program, the Projection Art Display, by Projection Artist James Muller, uses cutting edge 3D technology and will be the first of its kind ever performed on the coast.
The business community is also invited to join Coolum Business and Tourism members for their exclusive ‘CBAT Cut Party’ and end of year celebration at the Surf Club from 6:00pm on Friday (14 Dec).
The Festival winds down with a FREE family movie screening in Tickle Park on Sunday 16 December.
In keeping with the golfing theme, Coolum Beach Flicks will screen ‘The Legend of Bagger Vance’ from 6:30pm. BYO rugs, chairs and smiles – grab a meal from one of the many food outlets and settle in for a night under the stars.
Coolum’s Festival of Golf is presented by Coolum Business and Coolum Association Inc. and supported by Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
