Coolum Surfing School grom, Ryder Crawford will be joining seven other VEGEMITE SurfGroms as a VIP guest at the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast this Saturday (2 March).
Ryder, a registered ‘SurfGrom’ from Mudjimba, is one of only two Queensland winners selected to meet and surf with their heroes as the opening event of the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) season, the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast kicks off on the weekend.
VEGEMITE SurfGroms is the world-first national junior surfing program which offers 5-12 year olds an opportunity to develop strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills, while also developing a proficiency in surfing.
More than 15,000 children across Australia have enjoyed the program since it started in October 2011, and every registered participant had a chance to win a trip to the Quiksilver Pro by providing a photo of themselves enjoying the program.
The prize includes: flights and transfers to Coolangatta Airport for one child and one adult; one night’s accommodation at Coolangatta for one child and one adult; a Quiksilver Pro event merchandise pack; exclusive behind the scenes tour of the event site and the opportunity to meet and surf with some of the professional surfers competing.
The eight winners will also have access to the best seats in town on the VEGEMITE Mightiest Seat on the Beach, which will provide an uninterrupted, elevated view of the competition area plus also letting the kids try tarp surfing.
It will be operating each day from around 7.30 in morning through to 4pm and serving VEGEMITE on toast all day; plus hosting tons of giveaways with loads of VEGEMITE surf wax and Wahu beach toys.
“We are stoked for Ryder to win this competition; he is a great kid and always has fun surfing with his cousin at SurfGroms,” said Coolum Surfing School’s Genevieve Kendall.
“We can’t wait to hear the stories and see the photos of him hanging with some surfing champions at the Quicksilver Pro this Saturday!”
VEGEMITE SurfGroms programs are continuing through the Surfing Australia Surf Schools Network with more than 70 delivery centres around the country; and Coolum Surfing School is running Vegemite SurfGrom programs again in the Easter holidays and in Term two.
