Well over a thousand people gathered in Coolum’s Tickle Park on Saturday night (15 Dec) to celebrate the true sprit of Christmas with a tinsel-tinged night of carols, dancing, Santa and fireworks.
Now in its 15th year, Coolum’s Christmas in the Park is a highly anticipated free community celebration presented annually by Coolum Christian Family with the support of other local churches and businesses.
The festive event was one of several activities and events happening in Coolum over the past week, most of them taking place in the well-utilised Tickle Park area.
The excitement of the four-day final leg of the Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Telstra attracted plenty of attention, while over at the Penny Skateboards marquee, prize giveaways proved a popular draw card with the kids.
Coolum’s Festival of Golf was in full swing with the colourful Putt Putt Golf course and Sunshine Coast Kids Craft workshops a hit with fun-loving families. On Friday night, the Twilight Markets were the place to be and a 3D Art Projection lit up the beach outside the surf club.
The festive atmosphere continued over the weekend with Buskers lining the Esplanade and for the big kids, Dubmarine and Kingfisha shared the stage in the Civic Centre on Saturday night.
Back over at Tickle Park, Coolum Boardriders took advantage of the festive atmosphere with an official Pizza Party to congratulate recent National MR Shield winners, Isabella Nichols and Jaleesa Vincent.
For those still looking for family fun, the final Festival of Golf activity on Sunday night  – a free movie in the park, was the perfect end to a very busy few days for Coolum’s beachside community.
This week, the Coolum Library has been the place for festive celebrations, with Crafty Christmas workshops taking place over the past couple of days, and a special Under 5’s Christmas Storytelling session from 9:30am on Thursday morning (20 Dec).
On Christmas Eve (Monday 24 Dec), families and visitors are invited to the Peregian Beach SLSC nippers Christmas carols, starting from 4pm in Peregian Park.
Santa will swap his sleigh for a quick visit in the AGL Helicopter at around 6.45pm before heading off to make his round the world deliveries!
Tickle Park becomes fun central again on New Year’s Eve with the Coolum Lions’ free Party in the Park – featuring a double fireworks spectacular (8.30pm and midnight), a BBQ and side show alley rides and stalls.
Over at the Civic Centre on New Year’s Eve, the adults-only Cooltown Ball featuring Tijuana Cartel and Cheap Fakes will be in full swing and tickets are available here.
