Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Coordinator Alan Rogers said there are now 77 roads closed because of ongoing heavy showers across the region.
“Due to the number of roads still flooded it’s a good idea for people to check road closures before heading home this afternoon,” Mr Rogers said.
“You may need to take a different route home or you might even need to make alternative accommodation plans.
“We’ve had up to 100mm fall across the region today on top of the heavy rainfall from last night, that’s a lot of water in a short amount of time.
“It can be difficult to see water over the road, particularly at night, and I urge people not to make unnecessary trips during this wet weather.
“Check council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or Main Roads website www.131940.qld.gov.au.
“Importantly, remember, if it’s flooded – forget it.”
