A formal charter between Sunshine Coast Council and the Building Industry Forum is set to lay the foundation for a sustainable building industry on the Coast.
Regional Planning Portfolio Councillor Russell Green said council is pleased to have a charter that promotes goodwill and cooperation between council and the Sunshine Coast building industry.
“We are all agreed that we share the common goal of maintaining a sustainable building industry on the Coast,” Councillor Green said.
“Council and the Building Industry Forum formalised the charter to outline strategies for developing a constructive working relationship which includes holding regular meetings, promoting education programs and running joint projects and initiatives.
“Building industry representatives on the forum include, Housing Industry Association, Master Builders Association, Australian Institute of Building Surveyors, the Building Designers Association of Queensland and Institute of Private Certifiers Association of Queensland.
“Each organisation has different roles and responsibilities that are recognised and understood by forum members – mutual understanding is an important factor in fostering strong relationships.”
Housing Industry Association Branch Manager, Stuart Collins said the Housing Industry Association, as the peak national body for residential construction, is delighted to be a signatory to the Charter.
“The Charter provides a framework for HIA and other industry representatives to work co-operatively with the Sunshine Coast Council on the positive growth and strategic development of a sustainable construction industry on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Collins said.
“It also promotes the mutual sharing of information and ideas that inevitably leads to better planning and development outcomes for the local community.”
Master Builders Regional Manager, Michael Hopkins said the building and construction industry is one of the largest employers on the Sunshine Coast.
“Master Builders represents close to 1,000 local builders, trade contractors and suppliers who have an interest in ensuring the success of the Sunshine Coast economy,” Mr Hopkins said.
“The building industry forum shows there is a close working relationship between council and the construction industry. This is vital to the success of the Sunshine Coast construction industry.”
