The Australia Zoo crew are mourning the loss of Siam, their gorgeous Asian elephant.
At almost 60 years of age, Siam was the oldest elephant in Australia.
She had spent the past decade living out a long and happy retirement at Australia Zoo alongside Bimbo and Sabu.
Yesterday evening Siam had been grazing in acreage at the back of the zoo with Bimbo and Sabu as she does every evening.
Siam passed away suddenly last night from kidney failure and was found in the early hours this morning.
Due to Siam’s age, Australia Zoo had been monitoring her health, but there was no indication of any kidney problem.
The Australia Zoo family loved Siam dearly. As the largest of their three Asian elephants, she was affectionate, cheeky and endearing.
She will be sorely missed.
