Atomic physicist addresses Sunshine Coast students

Nicholas Cox, Associate Professor Robert Sang and Jillian Schomberg

Immanuel Lutheran College today hosted Physicist Associate Professor Robert Sang when he delivered the 2012 Australian Institute of Physics Youth Science Lecture to students in Years 10 – 12.
Professor Sang is a member of the Centre for Quantum Dynamics at Griffith University, a chief investigator with the Australian Research Council’s Centre of Excellence for Coherent X-Ray Science and Convenor of the Bachelor of Photonics and Nanoscience program at Griffith.
Dr Sang will explained how laser technology is now so advanced, it can measure light pulses at a billionth of a billionth of a second and create new x-ray light sources.
Such a laser system can be viewed as a ‘time machine’ that effectively freezes time as it investigates, as well as controls, very fast atomic and molecular processes.
