This weekend the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce’s new Aprés Mud and Mud Trail events are expected to be the icing on the cake of the adrenalin-pumping 19km obstacle course Tough Mudder.
Caloundra Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Events Chair Bill Darby says thousands of Tough Mudder participants, known as “Mudders” will celebrate their successes at the gala after-party events, sharing how they overcame  the toughest obstacles involving thick mud, ice-water, fire and 10,000 volts of electricity.
The Tough Mudder event will kick off at Bells Creek Racecourse Rd, Caloundra South at 8am on Saturday 16 August and 9am on Sunday 17 August. Aprés Mud celebrations will take place along the Esplanade at Bulcock Beach, on Saturday 16 August from 2pm to 8pm and the Mud Trail will run throughout Caloundra from Friday evening 15 August to Sunday 17 August .
Chamber of Commerce Tourism chair Bill Darby said,
“Aprés Mud will be a place to join with other Mudders (participants) to re-fresh, re-fuel and re-live the experience on a big film screen,” Mr Darby said.
“The public can join in the fun and celebration on the Caloundra waterfront, overlooking the spectacular Pumicestone Passage.
“Our exciting new Mud Trail will feature 24 Caloundra businesses, who will roll out a special ‘red carpet’ welcome and congratulations to our event visitors, anytime over the weekend from Friday through to Sunday evening.
“The backbone of the Mud Trail will be a mix of food, drink, music, shopping and fun activities showcasing Caloundra’s hospitality at its best.”
Tough Mudder Australian Operations General Manager Jeremy Kann said they were excited to be returning to Caloundra for the second consecutive Sunshine Coast Tough Mudder.
“This year thousands will again descend on the Sunshine Coast to tackle brand new, never-before-seen obstacles like Leap of Faith, Hangin’ Tough, and Pole Dancer.
“Some participants, who form part of our Mudder Legion program will also have the opportunity to test out the exclusive Legionnaires obstacle, Fire in Your Hole,” said Mr Kann.
“Thanks again to the support of the Sunshine Coast Council and the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce, we have extended this year’s event to include exciting new elements Aprés Mud and the Mud Trail.”
Sunshine Coast Council Tourism, Sport and Major Events portfolio councillor, Jason O’Pray, said he was keen to test out the new obstacles in Tough Mudder.
“I am also looking forward to the after-party celebrations Aprés Mud and the Mud Trail, which will be the icing on the cake!” Cr O’Pray said.
Tough Mudder, designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie, includes a series of endurance tests including thick mud, fire, ice-water and 10,000 volts of electricity. It usually takes between two and four hours to complete.
Mudders who participate will receive a Tough Mudder t-shirt, headband and one hard-earned beer. It is not a race, nor is there a medal, Tough Mudder is about finishing the gruelling obstacle course and celebrating the achievement at Aprés Mud and Mud Trail after parties.
