Sunshine Coast Council has developed a Draft Access and Inclusion Plan that is now available for community feedback.
Community Policy and Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the Draft Access and Inclusion Plan aims to create a more accessible and inclusive community on the Sunshine Coast.
“The plan outlines actions that council will undertake over the next five years that will increase access and benefit everyone – including residents and visitors to the Sunshine Coast,” Cr McKay said.
“Council is committed to improving access to council facilities, services and public spaces.
“At some point in our lives we, or someone we know, will need access to places that accommodate parents with prams and small children, the ageing population, young people and people with disabilities and mobility issues.
“An estimated 56,000 people on the Sunshine Coast are living with a disability, and this does not take into account visitors to the region.
“Better access for all people encourages community participation in social and physical activities and accessible facilities are a positive reflection on our diverse, caring and inclusive community.
“The plan has a five year implementation timeframe and includes actions that will provide people with easier access to information and better physical access for everyone.
“Council has undertaken extensive consultation with the general community and the disability sector to develop the draft plan.”
The draft plan is available for comment until 1 November, check council’s website for more details.
