‘A Night 4 BJ’ – Sports and Music Spectacular Helping Local Teenager

26th May, 2014 by Charles Hodgson View News

A-Night-4-BJ_PosterThe Surf Lifesaving movement across Queensland, with the support of Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, have banded together to help young Barry-Joseph McLeod (BJ), by staging a very special sports and music spectacular – ‘A Night 4 BJ’.
BJ and his mother, Sara, were active members of the Sunshine Coast community and the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club. Sadly, on the 12th March 2014, we lost Sara to a very aggressive form of cancer. Sara’s wonderful life was celebrated on the 20th March 2014 and she continues to be sadly missed by all.
Born in August 2000, BJ is a very active and happy young boy who has thoroughly immersed himself in the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club. Being just 13 years-of- age and an only child, he now has some significant challenges ahead of him.
BJ is very fortunate to have a loving and caring family who have accepted him and look forward to BJ being a very important part of their family.
To provide BJ with the strongest possible start to his life’s journey it is being planned to raise a nest egg for him. ‘A Night 4 BJ’, will be held at the Palmer Coolum Resort on the 26th of July 2014, and is an opportunity for the Sunshine Coast community to showcase its famous generosity and reach out to help BJ.
Ashley Robinson, General Manager of the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, along with a group of outstanding volunteers, is committed to supporting BJ move forward.
“’A Night 4 BJ’ is all about the Sunshine Coast community getting behind a great young kid who really does need our help,” said Mr Robinson.
BJ is a valued member of the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, participating in nippers, club events, competitions and weekend patrols. His mother, Sara, was involved in the Surf Life Saving movement in far North Queensland, achieving multiple awards.
“Sara’s passing has hit BJ pretty hard as you would expect, and it’s been terrific to see people across the Sunshine Coast get behind ‘A Night 4 BJ’,” said Mr Robinson.
“A number of Australia’s favourite sporting personalities are joining us for what is sure to be a sports and music spectacular.”
Pat Rafter, Sam Kekovich and Kerry O’Keeffe are part of a stunning line-up of sporting stars at Palmer Coolum Resort along with Chris Handy, Ali Day, Trevor Hendy, Courtney Hancock, John Connolly, Peter McWhinney and other surprise guests on the night.
“To add some real style to the evening we have the Sunshine Coast Oriana Men’s Choir, Pacific Lutheran College Choir and operatic singer, Ashlee McKinnon.
This great line-up of talent should save the crowd from hearing me sing, that’s got to be worth the price of a ticket alone,” said Mr Robinson.
National companies upon hearing of BJ’s situation have offered amazing support.
“Domino’s Pizza is planning a “Dough 4 BJ Day’ where on a given date one-dollar from every pizza sold throughout Queensland will go towards helping BJ.
Domino’s are also giving us a prize of ‘FREE Pizza 4 A Year’ to auction off. What an outstanding example of community spirit. It’s fantastic,” said Mr Robinson
‘A Night 4 BJ’ will kick off at 6:00 pm at the Palmer Coolum Resort on the 26th of July 2014. Tickets are $150 which includes a two course meal and drinks, live music and a chance to meet some great sporting heroes.
Tickets can be purchased from www.anight4bj.eventzilla.net. There will also be an auction with some great sporting items to help secure BJ’s financial future.
Don’t miss your chance to help BJ on his life’s journey.
We would love you to get behind ‘A Night 4 BJ’ for an evening of entertainment and community spirit by buying a ticket or booking a table today!
