Upgrade work is set to begin mid-year at a notoriously deadly intersection at Landsborough following a fierce campaign by locals and Caloundra MP Mark McArdle.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads last year confirmed it would fast-track the delivery of the Safer Roads Sooner (SRS) Program, which included future installation of traffic signals at Steve Irwin Way, Hardwood Rd and Railway St, Landsborough, ahead of the scheduled timeframe of 2014-15.
Caloundra MP Mark McArdle has recently received notification from the Regional Director for TMR confirming there had been a delay in completing the design for the project.
‘’I have been told the design is now complete and it is still expected that construction can begin as early as midway through the year,’’ Mr McArdle said.
‘’ This is a wonderful result not only for the people of the Hinterland, but also for the thousands of people who travel past this intersection on Steve Irwin Way each year.
‘’I have requested a copy of the design and will be keeping an eye on the construction process of the installation of traffic lights at this intersection to ensure it stays on target.’’
