THE Sunshine Coast has claimed a historic victory over arch rivals the Gold Coast in the inaugural Surfing Queensland Coast-of-Origin Interclub Series presented by World Surfaris.
The seven-event series, which sees surfers of all disciplines, from all over the state not only represent their respective boardriding clubs, but also their region and ultimately their ‘coast,’ – culminating today in a thrilling conclusion with the Sunshine Coast super-team edging out the Gold Coast by only one-point 269 to 268.
0.5m waves at Duranbah Beach (Gold Coast, Qld), tested competitors throughout the day, however, that didn’t dampen the spirits of Queensland’s grass-roots surfing community, as longboarders, shortboarders and SUP surfers of all ages and abilities came together in an amazing interclub competition.
Over 20 Queensland boardriding clubs from Noosa to Coolangatta converged on the Gold Coast, with upwards of 200 competitors taking part in the weekend’s event.
