[Video]Mayor Mark Jamieson will tomorrow embark on an investment mission to Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo in line with council’s approved International Relations Policy and program.
The Mayor will be using this opportunity to establish new relationships and follow up existing leads to promote investment in the Sunshine Coast particularly around the region’s game-changing projects such as the expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport and the Maroochydore city centre.
“This mission is about reinforcing awareness of the investment opportunities that are emerging in this region – investment opportunities that will generate jobs for Sunshine Coast residents and generate greater access to infrastructure and services,” he said.
“As ‘old hands’ at this will know, establishing contact and building relationships inAsia can be an exercise in patience – but the rewards can more than make up for the effort.
“At the end of the day, when council takes these projects into the market place looking for investment to make them happen, we want to have generated as much interest beforehand so that we can get the best result for the region.
“As a result of our missions last year, we have hosted more than 10 delegations from China – and built a recognition of the Sunshine Coast where previously no one was aware that we existed.
“We can either wait until other levels of government are in a position to provide funding for some of these projects, or we can go to the market where, despite the intense competition, we know there are many investors waiting to hear more about the fantastic investment opportunities we have here.”
The investment mission will be undertaken over a week and will involve meetings and presentations in each of the three cities with an array of high-net worth individuals and companies that have experience in major infrastructure, property development and hotel and convention investments around the globe.
