Slipper calls for feedback from the local fishing industry and community on the new Commonwealth Marine Reserve Network
Former Speaker and Member for Fisher, Peter Slipper has called for feedback from the Sunshine Coast fishing industry and community on the proposed changes to the Commonwealth’s Marine Reserve Network.
Mr Slipper is writing to local seafood industry leaders seeking input on how the management plan will affect their businesses.
“While I am informed the nearest proposed Green Zone in the new Commonwealth marine reserves is some 480km away plan to steer well away from the Sunshine Coast I am keen to learn of any knock on affects the proposed management plan may have on the local industry” Mr Slipper said.
“The multimillion dollar fishing industry is highly valuable to the Sunshine Coast, employing many people and boosting our local economy.” Mr Slipper said.
