Plan in place for six of Council’s key venues

21st August 2014 by Sunshine Coast Council

CommunityVenueServicesPlanA plan for six of the region’s key performance and community venues adopted by Sunshine Coast Council today will provide a long term direction for these important facilities.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the Sunshine Coast Performance and Community Venues Service Plan 2014-2029 will shape the future of six of Sunshine Coast Council’s key performance and community venues over the next 15 years.

“The six venues include The Events Centre Caloundra, Nambour Civic Centre, Lake Kawana Community Centre, Coolum Civic Centre, Kawana Community Hall and Beerwah and District Community Hall,” Cr McKay said.

“Within the past year, the venues hosted more than 3,800 bookings, 291 live performances and had approximately 315,000 visits.

“The Plan confirms Council’s continued commitment to its six key performance and community venues into the future.

“These venues provide a platform for the community to gather and participate in a range of activities and events, while also supporting arts and cultural development for the region.

“The Venues Plan will see Council strive to achieve a portfolio of venues that are well equipped to cater for a diverse range of activities and events offering captivating and creative experiences for their audiences.

“Council is working towards a sustainable economy and community by ensuring these venues continue to grow and play a vital long term role in the region’s future.

“The first of the Plan’s actions to be implemented this financial year will be preparation of a facility development plan for The Events Centre Caloundra.

“It will be exciting to see more of the Plan’s recommendations implemented over the coming years.”
