Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace has launched a community campaign to bust congestion around Caloundra after calls from local residents frustrated by the Queensland Government’s continuing failure to improve their roads in our region.
Mr Wallace said that while the Federal Government had committed $3.4 billion in the past two years toward reducing congestion on the Bruce Highway and improving the North Coast Rail, local residents have told him that traffic on State Government roads around Caloundra was reaching crisis point.
“The work the Federal Government is doing to improve the Bruce Highway will make a big difference to commuters’ lives when construction works are completed. But anyone who lives in our area knows that the congestion around Caloundra is just as big a problem. We have all spent too much time queuing at the Nicklin Way roundabout, or crawling on Caloundra Rd. Enough is enough.” Mr Wallace said.
“If you agree, sign my petition, and help me send a message to all levels of Government that we need action to get people home sooner and safer now.” he said.
Mr Wallace said that the roads around Caloundra are already at capacity, and that with more than 50,000 new residents set to move to the area over the next 30 years, the traffic is only going to get worse.
“The roads around Caloundra are a State Government responsibility. However, the people I speak to in our community tell me that this congestion is becoming one of the most important issues in the Southern and Central Sunshine Coast. I believe the time has come for our local elected representatives at every level of Government to step up, get to the bottom of the issue, and put pressure on the Queensland Government to stop short-changing our region.” he said.

“I will be following up with people who sign my petition or contact my office, and asking them to help me to develop the solutions that are going to make the biggest difference for local residents. If you’ve got common-sense ideas for change that our community can take to every level of Government for support, I want to hear from you” he said.
