In a real coup for local business, the Sunshine Coast Show Society has stepped up to take over the management of the popular Nambour Village Square Market.
Sunshine Coast Council Community Programs Portfolio holder and President of the Sunshine Coast Show Society, Councillor Jenny McKay said this was terrific news for Nambour businesses as well as the many visitors who enjoy the markets every Thursday.
“Thanks to the Show Society taking the reins, the Village Market will continue to be held every Thursday 9am until 2pm in the Nambour Town Square “The Vill” on Lowe Street,” Cr McKay said.
“Around 18 months ago council and local business owners expressed concern about issues being caused from loiterers in the then unused town square and were seeking a suitable regular use for the area.
“These markets commenced soon after in October 2012 and were quickly inundated with a positive response from both the stallholders and the retailers in the precinct.
“The markets have continued to work well for both groups with feedback from retailers very supportive of the mid-week event as it brings more people to town.”
Cr McKay said shoppers were coming to the markets now from all ends of the Coast.
“And why wouldn’t you pop in for a visit – it’s such a fantastic atmosphere and there’s always a wonderful array of fresh produce, arts and crafts, unique hand-sewn clothing, gourmet goodies, freshly baked goods, various bric-a-brac and much more,” she said.
“As well as being sure to pick up some terrific little items, you’ll also be helping to support the stallholders, who are all from the Sunshine Coast region and everything is produced locally.
“And with the market being centrally located in the town square, there’s also a stack of terrific shops and businesses nearby to visit while you’re here.
“The Thursday event also provides a real point-of-difference to other markets on the Sunshine Coast which are usually held over the weekend.”
