Heavy rainfall throughout the Sunshine Coast, and in particular the Hinterland, since Monday has caused yet another slip to occur on Palmwoods-Montville Road.
Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell has been working with the community and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to get this road reconstructed after landslips caused the road closure back in 2010.
“This is just another huge blow to the locals and tourists who have been waiting so patiently for this road to be re-opened.
“The advice given late last year was depending on the weather the road could be re-opened late this year or early 2013.
“I am advised the latest slip has occurred between two existing slip sites on the hairpin bend and was most likely caused as a result of water naturally flowing through the soil.
“I am pleased to hear TMR are giving this road their urgent attention and have a geotechnical expert visiting the site on Thursday to make an assessment.
“Can I just encourage locals to continue to use caution and their best judgment and care when driving anywhere near this area, ” Mr Powell concluded.
