Mooloolaba Motel site to be transformed

24th May, 2012 by Charles Hodgson View News

Sunshine Coast Council and KHA Development Managers agree approval for the Mooloolaba Motel site is a great outcome for development on the Coast.
Manager Planning Assessment Michael Bismire said the approval is the result of positive planning discussions between the developer and council.
“The site will be transformed into a mixed use business and retail space including units, shops and restaurants,” Mr Bismire said.
“The original application didn’t take into account future upgrades to Brisbane Road and that meant council couldn’t initially support the development.
“We worked in consultation with KHA Development Managers through an appeals process in the Planning and Environment Court to get the best outcome for the site.”
Mr Bismire said 3D modelling technology was used during discussions with the applicant about plans for the site.
“3D modelling is a visual tool that, in this instance, enabled council and the applicants to test different development options for the site in keeping with planning scheme requirements, the developer’s aims and future widening of Brisbane Road.
Managing Director of KHA Development Managers Mr Andrew Stevens said future road widening of Brisbane Road was the subject of a considerable amount of negotiation between the owner of the Mooloolaba Motel and council.
“A mutually beneficial outcome has been achieved,” Mr Stevens said.
“Road widening can still proceed and the site can also be developed.”
“Council staff were very professional in their negotiations, and we were able to work together to achieve a great outcome for council, the motel owner and the Sunshine Coast community’.
The agreed outcome was ratified in Brisbane today by the Planning and Environment Court.
