Put your dancing shoes on, warm up your vocal chords and head to Montville for the Sunshine Coast Council’s Sundayze Series event Rockin’ Retro next month.
The glorious Russell Family Park in Montville will come alive with music and entertainment from the 50’s through to the 80’s on Sunday 12 August from 2pm.
To complete the Rockin’ Retro theme there will be a classic car display featuring hot rods from the 50’s and 60’s and children will not miss out with free face painting.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said Rockin’ Retro is the fifth event in the Sundayze Series which offers the community the opportunity to come together through a variety of themes across the region.
“Events create a sense of fun and vibrancy which results in a strong sense of community connectivity, pride and sense of place and to have an event in Montville is fantastic,” Cr McKay said.
“Council is proud to present such a high calibre of free entertainment for the community to enjoy and it is also a great opportunity to showcase the beautiful landscape and facilities that Montville has to offer.”
Headlining the event will be Queensland’s Captain WOW who will play a variety of 60’s flower powered pop, 70’s disco and 80’s retro beats. Captain WOW is recognised as one of the most versatile acts in the country and recently opened for the Village People. They have also supported some Aussie greats including Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham and Hunters and Collectors just to name a few.
To add a little variety to the program, Sunshine Coast’s very own Happy Day Rockers will perform two entertaining rock ‘n’ roll dance shows which are sure to get the crowd up and dancing.
To complete the fantastic program, Elvis Presley (alias Goran Sedlar) will make a guest appearance as MC for the afternoon.
The community is encouraged to head to Montville early to sample the local fair, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and boutique shops just a stone’s through away from the venue.
Don’t forget to bring a chair or picnic rug and be sure to check council’s website for wet weather contingencies either closer to the event or on the day..
