Sunshine Coast construction company, Ri-con Contractors has given a big push off to Lachlan’s Ride to Conquer Cancer challenge with a donation of $1,000.
Lachlan Henbury was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma at the age of 15 and if left untreated, was given just two weeks to live. After 4 months in hospital, Lachie came out the other side alive, healthy and with a changed view on life. Along his journey to good health, Lachlan met some amazing people who have acted as his inspiration to take part in the Ride to Conquer Cancer challenge, “they took such good care of me, I have decided to give back” he says, preparing for his fundraising event.
The Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancel event is for anyone who wants to challenge themselves for a great cause. All you need is motivation, a bike and a helmet. Money raised by taking part will benefit the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, one of Australia’s largest and most successful medical research institutes. Lachlan is spreading the word about the ride in an effort to raise as much money for the cause as he can, “if the little bit of money you help us raise could change just one person’s cancer experience for the better, it would make it all worthwhile,” he said. He shares a thought that reminds us all of how every bit helps “you never know, it could be your $50 that helps find a cure for cancer.”
The two day, 200 kilometre cycling adventure begins in Brisbane on 17th August 2013, with an inspiring Opening Ceremony, where those lost to cancer will be remembered and those continuing the fight will be honoured. After winding through some of Queensland’s most beautiful scenery, participants will cross the finish line exhausted, but energised by the amazing impact they will have made in the quest to conquer cancer.
