Immanuel Lutheran College student Sophie Smith is one step closer to realising her dream of becoming a principal dancer with an international ballet company after receiving a prestigious award from London’s Royal Ballet School.
Already a member of the acclaimed Australian Ballet School, Sophie recently returned from the Royal Ballet School’s International Summer School in London where she joined 125 other dancers from the United States, the Ukraine, Norway, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan and Canada.
Currently in Year 6 at Immanuel, Sophie was one of only three Australian girls chosen to attend the summer school.
“It was an amazing experience and I learnt a lot,” said Sophie.
In each age group, a Special Achievement Award was presented to a promising dancer. Sophie was chosen to receive the award for the 10-11 years age group and has been invited to attend the Royal Ballet School again next year.
According to Sophie, one of the highlights of her experience was being able to take classes in the Dame Margot Fonteyn Studio and to dance on the same floors as ballerinas such as Darcey Bussell and Amber Scott.
