Australia’s largest pro-am golf event, the Holden Scramble, is coming to Palmer Coolum Resort with at least six events to be hosted on the championship golf course between March and September 2013.
The ‘Scramble’s’ 22nd season launch was held at Twin Waters Golf Club on 10 March, with GM Holden announcing a further three year naming rights sponsorship deal.
Attracting up to 45,000 participants each year, the Holden Scramble has become Australia’s most successful pro-amateur team event since it began in 1992.
GM Holden’s three-year sponsorship extension will take the partnership between the iconic Australian car brand and the PGA of Australia through to 24 years, and is Holden’s longest running sponsorship outside of Motorsport.
“The Holden Scramble has formed a key part of our commitment to the Australian public over the past 22 years, as it allows Holden and our network of Dealerships to engage with the local community through golf at the grassroots level,” said Mike Devereux, Chairman and Managing Director of GM Holden.
The partnership will ensure the Championship Final returns to the Twin Waters Golf Club for the next three years, while Stage one local qualifying events will be held at Palmer Coolum Resort for the first time this year; and any amateur player with a Golf Australia handicap is eligible to take part.
Teams must have four players to compete in the tournament, but Palmer Coolum Resort’s Director of Golf, Paul Crangle says anyone struggling to make up a quartet should simply call the resort’s pro shop for assistance.
“We are hosting at least six events and if there are people out there who can’t make up a quartet then they should contact us and we will do what we can to help,” Mr Crangle said.
“The Holden Scramble is a massive national event and we are delighted to be hosting qualifiers at Palmer Coolum Resort for the first time. There are some great prizes on offer and of course the chance of playing with a top pro in the Grand Final.”
More than 450 local events take place all over the country with winning teams advancing to play in one of a series of regional finals in October. In the Regional Finals, the four-person squads will be joined by a local club professional to assist their cause.
Those who keep their nerve and prevail in the regional finals will head into the championship final (November) and be allocated a top professional to help lead their side to glory.
PGA professionals who have played in recent finals include the likes of Stuart Appleby, Peter O’Malley and Wayne Grady.
Entry to one of the local qualifiers at Palmer Coolum Resort is $125.00 per person, which includes the Holden Scramble National Entry Fee of $35.00 per person.
All participants receive a gift pack, which includes six Callaway golf balls and a $550.00 cashback offer from major sponsors Holden.
Palmer Coolum Resort’s Stage One Local Qualifiers will be held on the following dates:
