Some of the Sunshine Coast’s most vulnerable children and their carers will benefit from continued support thanks to a renewed funding commitment from the Queensland Government.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the Sunshine Coast Cooloola Sexual Abuse Prevention and Intervention Program would receive more than $620,000 each year over the next three years to protect and support young people who are at risk.

“The Sunshine Coast Cooloola Sexual Abuse Prevention and Intervention Program is working hard to provide the support services that some of our children and their carers need,” Ms Simpson said.

“This service offers counselling, support and information to people who have been sexually abused.”

Child Safety Minister Tracy Davis said the Newman Government was committed to ensuring children and young people were safe and supported.

“Child protection is everyone’s business,” Ms Davis said.

“This Government is delivering a range of support services through our non-government partners to help young people and strengthen families.”

Ms Davis said the Commission of Inquiry, which is underway looking into Queensland’s child protection system, was formulating recommendations to improve child safety.

“The Newman Government is committed to providing the best possible child protection system,” she said.

“We want to give Queensland kids the chance of a bright future and the Inquiry will help us chart a roadmap for the next 10 years.”
